The Market and Opportunity

Today’s Problems

Mainstream schools struggle to cater for pupils who fail to thrive in the target orientated classroom and then face the possibility of exclusion.

It is also recognised that a large element of pupils are not accessing education full stop, due to either a total rejection of formal school life, waiting for a special school placement, or relationship breakdown between parents and school.

Mainstream Schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) Special Needs departments in all Local Authorities face the ongoing problem of finding suitable, quality vocational training for disengaged young people. LAs nationwide have hundreds of difficult to place pupils that need an individual, meaningful and tailored package of education.

All Local Authorities are obliged under the Government 14-19 legislation to find vocational training for pupils.

The Future

From 2007/08 all high schools are obligated to offer the new ‘Specialised Diplomas’, the key areas being Building Construction and in the Motor Vehicle Trade. An amount of placements are currently offered by local colleges but colleges will not cope with the numbers of pupils that will soon be seeking placements.

It is a known fact in education circles that colleges experience many problems catering for disaffected pupils. Mainstream Pupils can be catered for in colleges whereas disengaged pupils cannot cope with the rigid, formal approach offered. Government legislation is pushing all the time for schools to work in partnership with independent companies to offer solutions for such pupils.

Why Are COOL UK Successful In The Market Place ?

LAs find it very difficult to find quality vocational training placements for Key Stage 4 (Y10 and Y11) pupils who are exhibiting challenging behaviour.

Mainstream schools exclude and Pupil Referral units are left to pick up the pieces with few alternative quality providers.

COOL UK offers a tailor made service to schools for difficult to place and disengaged
young people. By using our own bases to deliver work related learning with skilled tradesmen, teaching staff, youth workers, learning mentors (via The Prince's Trust) and quality work experience providers and in partnership with schools and parents we are able to deliver an effective group of programmes.

COOL UK operate in a unique market place with no real competition and given their
success rate, schools are recognising an obligation to refer pupils on to them. Since the
company’s incorporation COOL UK has gone from strength to strength as more and
more educators refer their most challenging pupils. The proof tends to be in the pudding,
the overall average attendance for pupils attending COOL UK is 92% and retention of
pupils is 99%.

For some of the most challenging pupils in our regions COOL UK really is...
